COALATION ACTIVITIES

The Coalition’s strategic activities are as follows:

  1. Monitor the educational budget of government
    The Coalition conducts budget monitoring as a way to hold the government accountable and transparent in use of funds meant for education with special focus on the following priority pro poor expenditures: Teaching and Learning Materials TLMS, Teacher Training, Teacher Welfare, Inspection, Special Needs Education, and cross cutting Issues of Gender and HIV/AIDS.
  2. Conduct research in educational issues
    The Coalition carries out research with the objective to collect adequate information for planning and advocacy. Key emphasis is on issues of access, equity, quality and relevance on education such as Key areas: enrolment of pupils, drop outs, absenteeism (pupils/teachers), community work, HIV/AIDS impact, violence against pupils, and teacher distribution etc
  3. Build the capacity of civil society organizations attached to the Coalition for them to advocate on policy issues.
    The key capacity building areas are Research, advocacy, policy analysis, communication, project management, monitoring and evaluation
  4. To advocate on key educational issues.
    The Coalition advocates for the achievement of Education for All (EFA) goals as well as education millennium development goals (MDGS). In this regard the Coalition advocates for expansion of early childhood development (ECD), universal free and compulsory primary education (UPE), life skills development for out of school youth, increase in adult literacy, gender parity in primary and secondary education as well as improvements in quality and excellency in education. In its advocacy the Coalition engages with policy makers such as Members of Parliament (MPs), officials from Executive Government, donors and the media.
  5. To sensitize and mobilize civil society organizations (CSOs) and communities on policy and educational content issues.

The objective of this activity is to enhance participation of CSOs, and grassroots communities in policy formulation, implementation, monitoring and review at all levels. The targeted people are members of the Coalition, district assemblies and school governance structures like school management committees (SMCs) and Parents Teacher Associations (PTAs).
